Season Three – Episode Eleven: “Abiquiu”

Episode Description:
Skyler gets more involved in Walt’s business, much to his chagrin. Hank struggles with his recovery. Jesse takes an active role in his new enterprise, leading him to a startling discovery.

Episode Overview:
After confirming the promise she made to Marie to pay for Hank’s expensive physical therapy treatments, Skyler questions Walt about how he is planning to hide his ill-gotten gains from the government. When Walt introduces her to Saul, Skyler isn’t convinced that the lawyer’s scheme to launder their proceeds through a laser tag business will be enough to protect them. Meanwhile, after Walt’s suspicions about his partner’s honesty inspire a display of mock outrage, Jesse returns to rehab to find Skinny Pete and Badger hesitant to follow through on their plan to sell to the recovering addicts there. To prove to them that it can be done, Jesse targets the group’s newest member, Andrea, only to have second thoughts about tempting her once he meets her 5-year-old son, Brock.

Lacking confidence in Saul, Skyler takes matters into her own hands and suggests that Walt buy a business he at least knows something about, like the car wash where he used to work before becoming a drug kingpin. However, when Walt tries selling him on the idea, Saul points out that, unlike the laser tag business, the car wash doesn’t come with an owner who is also a willing accomplice. Meanwhile, upset when Jesse refuses to provide any meth, Andrea tells him of how her younger brother, Tomás, became a hardened gang member at the tender age of eight. And as she insists that she will never allow Brock to follow in his uncle’s footsteps, Jesse realizes that Tomás is the same young gangster who killed his good friend, Combo.

Back at the hospital, Hank remains unhappy with his progress – so much so that when Marie joyously announces that he is about to be released to continue his therapy at home, he adamantly says he isn’t leaving until he can walk out on his own power. Continuing to believe the car wash is a better idea, Skyler offers to manage the business herself. And when she claims that their being married will prevent her from having to testify against him, Walt realizes that she never filed the divorce papers he signed. Finally, as a dinner together leaves Walt wondering if Gus suspects his honesty, Jesse uses a street corner drug deal to zero in on Combo’s killer, Tomás.
